1 CV Writing Tip That Could Change Your Job Search Forever!
In my experience, the #1 thing that CVs are mostly missing is achievements.
It sounds simple right? Well it really is, but very few CVs have achievements clearly stated.
Although every CV is different, without achievements, they all look the same. They all include terms like “Hard worker”, “Good communication skills”, “Good analytical Skills”, “Good presentation skills”, “Good whatever Skills”… How can an employer or a recruiter know which CV is better? Achievements is the only thing that can set you apart from other applicants.
But before editing your CV again, prepare a list of all your achievements on a piece of paper.
These achievements should be quantifiable (use numbers like $, AED, %, ranking, grades, increases, reductions).
Now you might be thinking “but I do not have much achievements yet…” Everyone does! Here are a list of questions you should ask yourself in order to reconnect with your achievements.
-
What special problems have you solved for your current/past employer?
-
Did you receive any promotion? (Why were you selected for this/these promotion(s)
-
Did you help increase sales, productivity, and efficiency? (How did you do it, how much was the result (AED, time saved…etc)
-
Did you save money for the company? (How much was that? And how did you do it?)
-
Did you put in place any new systems/project/programs? (How did you do it, what were the results of this program for the company?)
-
Did you train anyone? (How did the people you trained evolve thanks to your training?)
-
Have you grown the team you are currently managing? (How many were you when you started, how many are you now?)
-
Have you studied / traveled abroad? Where? How long?
-
Are you part of any association or organization apart from your current employer?
